Let the Bible Tell Me Why
Our theme for 2026 is Tell Me Why.  In keeping with this, our Spring adult Wednesday evening auditorium class will be looking at various common ideas which conflict with scripture.   We are simply focusing on concepts that are taught which are not supported by the Bible.  The list of topics are listed below.
Is “Once saved always saved” taught in scripture?  We’ve all heard the phrase “my ticket is punched”.  There is a very common belief that once saved it is impossible to be lost, no matter what.  But, does the Bible actually support this idea?
Is salvation by faith only?  Is it true that all we have to do to be saved is say “The Sinners Prayer” or just acknowledge that Jesus is the Son of God.  Is anything else salvation by works?  Listen to what the Bible actually says.
Is “original sin” taught in scripture?  When we are born are we immediately sinful? Do we inherit sin all the way back to Adam? Does the Bible teach that innocent babies have to be baptized?
When we die do we go to purgatoryAfter death then what? Where does the soul go?  Is there such a place as purgatory where we still have to prove our salvation?  After death, can those still living influence God to change our eternal destination?
Is the “Immaculate Conception” true?  Was Mary, the mother of Jesus, miraculously conceived? If so, is she equal (or superior) to Jesus in bringing about salvation?  Why does the Bible contain so few references to her and her life?
Do we have free will or or we predestined to act a certain way?  As these words were being typed, did the editor choose the text or was it done by constraint?  Do we have free will to act and to choose or are we simply robots preprogrammed to be what we are?
Is there a Heaven and a Hell?  How can a loving God condemn anyone to eternal punishment as horrible as Hell?  If there is no Hell, then is there a Heaven?  Why doesn’t God just accept us for who we are or decide to be?  After all, if He made us, and we are flawed, then He is responsible, right? It would then be unfair of Him to punish us for what He has already done.  What does the Bible really say about God being both loving and just?
When are the “Last Days” and what about “End Times”?  Every time there is an armed conflict in the world you can hear someone say “these are the last days because of wars and rumors of wars”.  What does the Bible say about being able to recognize when the end of time is near?

Was Jesus fully God?  Funny as it may sound there are many people calling themselves Christians who deny the deity of Jesus.  The argument is that He never admitted to being divine.  Is this true?  What did Jesus say about Himself and what did the Apostles teach concerning His nature?
